Comrades, supporters and friends,
We are the Nonation Truck Collective. In the following lines we would like to introduce ourselves briefly and outline our work focus.
In 2019, the Balkan region is still associated with impassable escape routes, inhuman conditions for refugees and numerous human rights violations against migrants. Support for people on the move can be found in independent structures and a few NGOs. Those structures however, can by far not cover all their needs, especially with regard to the ever-worsening policies at the external borders of Europe.
Thats why we have decided to support the migrants’ struggles in this region and to work in solidarity with existing networks.
Over the past few years, we have been involved as individuals in projects along the escape routes in Greece, Serbia and Bosnia. The experiences from this time serves as the starting point for the work of our collective and the Nonation Truck (NNT).
Our goal is to be able to respond as effectively and sustainable as possible to the ever-changing escape routes to Central and Western Europe.
Realization finds this goal in the form of a converted truck. Out of this vehicle, we want to distribute warm food, tea and coffee on the streets of Serbia and Bosnia. Furthermore, our truck should be able to charge 50 mobile phones and power banks at the same time, as well as provide space for trained medical care / first aid.
We understand our project as an answer to the inhumane treatment of refugees in front of the external borders of the European Union. The migration policy of European states pursues exclusively individual interests and is a ticking time bomb for those affected. We position ourselves against the guidelines of this policy and its actors and see our project as a necessary sign to make the Balkan region a bit more walkable.
Perspectively we want our truck to be on the Balkan route ongoing and for several years, because in particular with regard to the tendencies of current political areas of conflict, we can not assume that the movement of refugees will be disrupted.
For the realization of NNT we are depending on donations and money of solidarity parties and events. The truck has already been purchased, the conversion period is imminent and next spring we want to put our preparations into practice in the Balkans.
